Do's and Don'ts to Cleaning Glasses

How to Clean Glasses

Do's

  • When you’re not wearing your glasses, store them in a protective eyeglass case to keep them safe.
  • Wash cleaning cloths regularly in warm soapy water.
  • Straps or chains can be added to frames for extra protection from potential falls and scratches.

Don'ts

  • Don’t use paper products, textured towels, or clothing to clean your lenses. These are too rough, and clothing has dust and debris that can scratch the lenses.
  • Don’t use cloths that have been washed with fabric softener since this can leave a film on the lenses.
  • Don’t use oil and lotion-based soaps.
  • Never use household glass cleaners or products that contain bleach or ammonia to clean your glasses. The chemicals will break down the protective coating on the lenses.
  • Avoid keeping your glasses outside or in the car on a hot day because the heat will warp the glasses frames and cause the lens coating to peel.
  • Avoid putting glasses on your head since this can stretch them out and get them oily from your hair.

It is important to clean your glasses the right way to prevent scratches, smudges, and preserve any lens coatings. However, we know accidents happen. At America's Best we have hundreds of eyeglasses starting at $69.95. Our Customer Service Team will also be happy to help answer any of your questions or concerns.
